Trinidad - First Diagnostic -

Hi everyone,

Yesterday we completed Trinidad’s phase for this trip. UWI's team and I visited Regency Recruitment. The members of UWI's team on the picture are: Acolla Cameron, Ainsa Guppy, Anupa Roopchand, Marvin Pacheco and Simon Fraser.

I’m uploading the Methodology Manual in English for reference, and two more files: one for requesting information on sales and the other one for Human Resources statistics.

Jamaica - First Diagnostic

Dear all,

The first diagnostic in Jamaica went pretty good. The company selected for it was INFOSERV. Here, we visited the company for two days interviewing the staff and reviewing information. MONA’s team was formed by Dr. Densil Williams, Dr. Sheryl Thompson, and Dr. Lawrence Nicholson.

I prepared a template for the Investment Plan in English. You can download it by click in here. Please, feel free to make any changes to it.

Bahamas First Diagnostic

Dear all,

This is a picture of our first day of work while doing the diagnostic in Bahamas. The company selected for the first diagnostic was Bahamas Waste. We spent two days interviewing the staff and reviewing information. At the end, we completed almost 80% of the indicators.

Bernadette Robins and Jose Velazquez were the COB team assigned to this company. BTW, Bernadette prepared an improved version of the file named “Interview topics per business unit” that I’m attaching for future reference.

A few tips on the visit:

I'm sharing a tool that we developed in Costa Rica for interviewing with you. The tool is basically an Excel file with hyperlinks to specific chapters of the Finpyme Manual. The version that I’m uploading is in English, so you can use it at once. Click here to downlowad Dynamic Interview Guide

Two thoughts about the visit and interviews:

Visit: While visiting the company we should take the time to walk around its facilities (in and out). For example, we should pay attention to:
1. the plant lay-out (when it’s a manufacturing company),
2. occupational safety: health issues,
3. Environmental issues (sonic contamination, water contamination, etc.)

Interviewing: We need an organizational chart in advance (with the names of those in charge!) to make the best of the company’s time. With it in hand, we can schedule individual meetings of about 1-2 hours with each person. There is no need to schedule group meetings!

We need to keep in mind that the company has to do business as usual while we are there. That’s why our presence should be very subtle.

Welcome!

Dear FINPYME agents,

This blog will allow us to share ideas, experiences and tools for the successful development of the program in each country. I will be posting different tools for gathering information and interviewing. Please feel free to make comments on any entry.

All the best,
